Whatwouldyoudointhewakeofaglobalcatastrophe?Howwouldyoufindfood?Water?Shelter?TheColonyisacontrolledexperimenttoseeexactlywhatitwouldtaketosurviveandrebuildunderthesecircumstances.For10weeks,agroupof10volunteers,whosebackgroundsandexpertiserepresentacross-sectionofmodernsociety,areisolatedinanurbanenvironmentoutsideLosAngelesandtaskedwithcreatingalivablesociety.Withnoelectricityfromthegrid,norunningwaterandnomunicationwiththeoutsideworld,allthevolunteershavetoworkwitharetheirskillsandwhatevertoolsandsuppliestheycanscavengefromtheirsurroundings.Expertsfromthefieldsofhomelandsecurity,engineeringandpsychologyhavehelpeddesigntheworldofTheColonytoreflectelementsfrombothreal-lifedisastersandmodelsofwhatthefuturecouldlooklikeafteraglobalviraloutbreak.Overthecourseofthe10-weekexperiment,theColonistsmustworktogethertobuildthenecessitiesofsurvival,suchasawater-filtrationsystem,abatterybankthatpoweredtheirelectricity,asolarcooker,ashowersystemandagreenhouse–andevensomeniceties(acoffeemaker!).
